KHANYISA High School boys and Ngangelizwe High School girls were both crowned champions of the 2024 FNB Football First Mthatha Regional Festival.
The FNB tournament was held at Rotary Stadium in Mthatha, and it started last week. The tournament’s aim was to give these young stars an opportunity to showcase their talents.
The footballers came from about 22 schools who were participating in this tournament from Mthatha and surrounding villages.
About 40 players were selected from both girls and boys, and they are going to form a squad that will travel to the FNB National Championships in September 2024.
The winning coaches expressed their excitement after lifting the trophies.
Khanyisa High School head coach, Sinobom Kapase, said the match against Black Lions FC was not an easy game, but the best team won.
“We are all happy as a team for winning the FNB tournament. This is the first time winning it, and last year we were eliminated in the first round, so this year we worked very hard, and the boys are also happy,” said Kapase.
“Even though we won the final, there is still a lot of work that we need to do to improve our team.”
Khanyisa High School boys won the final match 2–0 against Black Lions FC.
Meanwhile, Ngangelizwe High School girls were crowned champions of the women’s football side after thrashing Nozuko High School 4–3 on penalties after the match ended 0–0.
