In a disruptive operation led by Mthatha Serious Organised Crime Investigation (SOCI) jointly with Public Order Police (POP) from Gqeberha deployed in OR Tambo district, King Sabata Dalindyebo Municipality Traffic Officers, K9 Mthatha Police and Tactical Response Team (TRT), two suspects were arrested on charges of possession of drugs.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, on August 25 at about 14:00 the Serious Organised Crime Investigation of the Hawks planned and conducted a disruptive operation at the old Grover Hotel on the corner of Madeira and Sutherland Street in Mthatha.
She said that authority to conduct the search was granted by the magistrate and the premises were thus cordoned off for a search operation by the joint team.
“The search resulted in two suspects being arrested for possession of drugs. Among the exhibits collected were 19 different bank cards, five knives used to crush tik, and 50 small bags of tik weighing 65 grams were seized,” said Mgolodela.
She said that the duo is expected to make their first court appearance at the Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on August 28.
