The Hawks in Eastern Cape are requesting the assistance of the community in the whereabouts of a suspect known as Neliswa Elizabeth Nofilita (52).

The suspect is sought in connection with allegations of fraud and tax evasion case that occurred during the period between 2014 and 2015 in East London.

It is alleged that during the period between 2014 and 2015, the accused unlawfully, falsely declared with the intent to defraud South African Revenue Services (SARS) that her business was not trading nor doing any business during the said period. Warrant-Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said that she had not collected Value Added Tax (VAT) on behalf of her business entity during the aforesaid period, nor owe SARS. Therefore, SARS was prejudiced cash to an amount over R633 000.

Nofilita was arrested by the Hawk’s Serious Commercial Crime Investigation on March 24, 2023 and she appeared before the East London Magistrate’s court on the same day of her arrest, where she was released on bail.

Her matter was remanded to October 23, 2023 and she failed to appear before court and her bail was estreated. Therefore, the warrant of arrest was authorised. She was located to her previously known address but not found.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Mboiki Ngwenya is urging  Nofilita to come forward and hand herself over  and is also appealing to the community to give information regarding  her whereabouts by contacting the Investigating Officer Warrant-Officer Gideon Smith  on 072 580 2538 or  contact 08600 10111 or contact the nearest police station.
