The Eastern Cape Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI), also known as the Hawks, is investigating the tragic death of an off-duty police constable allegedly killed in Nompumelelo township, Beacon Bay, on Saturday, September 14.
At the time of going to print, no arrests had yet been made.
The body of 28-year-old constable Siyabulela Mtsolisi, who was attached to the Duncan Village police station, was found with an open stab wound on his chest lying in Mxinwa Street, Nompumelelo, during the early morning hours.
Eastern Cape Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, confirmed that the Hawks were investigating the murder. The motive for the killing is unknown.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, said police have opened a case of murder and the case has been transferred and taken over by the DPCI (Hawks) for further investigation.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene, extended her sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues.
Just last month, an off-duty police sergeant, Thando Ganyaza, 42, attached to the East London K9 unit, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen outside his home in Mdantsane. The motive for his killing is still unknown and the case is also being investigated by the Hawks. At the time of going to print, no arrests have been made in this case either.
