The Cegcwane Sport Tournament organisers said they are hoping to see more scouts at this weekend’s tournament, the fourth edition.
A total of 22 soccer teams and 15 netball teams are already registered to compete for the title this coming weekend.
The tournament will be held at Cegcwane Cillage near Mthatha.
The aim of the tournament is to unite youth from Cegcwane and surrounding villages, by participating in different sporting codes.
“We intend bringing sport as a vehicle for changing social ills and contributing to rural sports development through opportunities of sports/player scouting. This tournament will also contribute to the local economy through creating jobs for street vendors as they sell fresh fruit, drinks and fast foods on the day and some handmade items,” said Masa Mbem, one of the organisers.
The Cegcwane Sport Tournament, brought by Utshintsho Loluntu this year, is sponsored by Studio 88 (Pty) Ltd.
Masa said that they are expecting more teams and scouters this year.
