A single mother of five from Mpeko Village in Mthatha, who was living in a dilapidated mud structure on the verge of total collapse, has received a new three-bedroomed house built by the Gcinabantu Hutchison Ngcukayitobi Foundation (GNF), in partnership with Chippa Holdings.

The foundation, founded by ANC provincial secretary, Lulama Ngcukayitobi, officially handed over the house, complete with furniture, to the Ngqele family on August 18.

The family’s desperate living conditions were brought to light in March this year when the GNF held an outreach programme in Mpeko Village, and came across the Ngqele family’s inhumane living conditions and committed to assist them.

The family had no means of fixing their damaged mud house, as the single mother of five is unemployed.

The GNF further handed over computers, school shoes, sports kit, and a year-long free wireless internet (Wi-Fi) connection to Mpeko Senior Secondary School.

The donation was made possible by the foundation’s sponsors, Chippa Holdings and Marematlou Training Institute.

The foundation said that the installation of Wi-Fi at the school will equip not just the school of Mpeko but the community as well, by creating access to a digital world and bringing dignity to the entire community.
