The South African Men’s Forum (SAMFO) spokesperson, Zuko Ngandi, confirmed that they had visited the Mancam area in Mqanduli with the aim of equipping community members about what they can do as they prepare their children for initiation schools.
He said they also wanted to inform people about the duties that they are performing, as SAMFO.
According to him, in this season their focus is on circumcision, and they want to ensure that no Initiate dies while in the initiation school.
He said that they were trying to equip parents on what they should do, and not do during this period.
He confirmed that they would also keep on hosting men’s conferences, because it is where they find time to talk more about these things.
Community Development Worker (CDW) from Mancam locality in Mqanduli, Zamekile Makeleni, said that they had learnt a lot from members of SAMFO.
Makeleni said that this Forum would help them to know how to play part in their families.
“Our behaviour in front of our children is not good. They learn nothing from us as fathers, because we are not an example to them. This forum will help us to do introspection and ensure that we are good examples in front of them, so that one day they can be proud of us,” said Makeleni.
