THE former Mayor of Port St Johns Local Municipality in Port St Johns, Councillor Nomvuzo Mlombile-Cingo, confirmed she resigned as mayor of that municipality and has joined OR Tambo District Municipality (ORTDM) as a councillor.
Mlombile-Cingo said it is good to try new things, and she is looking forward to learning more.
“As I have joined the ORTDM it will be easy for me to see the challenges that are facing the district, which made things hard for it to solve issues facing local municipalities in time. If I can be given a chance to sit down with the mayor who will take my position as Mayor of Port St Johns Local Municipality, I can give him/her some advice so that it can be easy to understand what community members want,” said Mlombile-Cingo.
She said that she can advise that person to listen to people and find the problems which may lead them to have misunderstandings with the municipality.
Mlombile-Cingo said it is very wise to do programmes so people know what the municipality is doing, and also it is important to host public participation.
“Since it is Women’s Month, women must know that it is not easy to be a leader but that does not mean we must give up. There are days when you feel that you can surrender, but a leader does not do that;, you keep on pushing until something happens. Learn to empower yourselves by reading the rules of the place that you are leading.”
