FASHION enthusiasts and trend followers were in for a treat at the second annual Buffalo City Metro Fashion Fair, where seven local fashion designers showcased their stunning designs to an entranced audience.
The showcase, described as the runway presentation of talented fashion designers, took place on 22nd February at BMW East London in Berea. A display of stylish clothing, jewellery, chic footwear, and accessories took centre stage as local designers made a splash.
Under the theme “Metamorphosis”, the fashion fair celebrated the beauty of growth and also assisted designers in building a larger footprint provincially and nationally.
Showcasing his elegant male fashion collection in alignment with the theme, Quigney-based designer and stylist Thandile Ndamase said, to him, “Metamorphosis” speaks to how the fashion industry has grown and changed shape throughout the years. “It means different cutting techniques and different kinds of shapes and how those outfits were styled then and now.”
Another designer, Unathi Mkize of Zawadi Crochet, said, “What inspired my garments is the diversity within which crochet patterns can be expressed. Each garment in our collection had its own individual style and pattern, and I wanted to express the beauty of crochet and how modern it can be in the world of fashion.”
The Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, which has been entrusted with the task of developing and promoting artists in the fields of visual arts, craft, and design, contributes to their long-term development to achieve national and international recognition. “There is a new dawn of fashion. We are seeing more daring fashion designers exploring the unexpected in the fashion sector,” departmental Communications Manager Andile Nduna said.
