The South African Police Service (SAPS) has launched a search for suspect(s) who allegedly raped and murdered an 85-year-old woman during a house robbery at her home in Keiskamahoek this past weekend. A case of murder, rape, and house robbery has been opened for investigation following the incident.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, said that according to the information, it is alleged that the domestic worker left the 85-year-old woman on Friday, October 25, in her home at Nomzamo Garage, Main Road in Keiskamahoek. When she arrived on Saturday, October 26, at about 08:00, she found the woman’s body in her bedroom.

Commenting on the murder, Eastern Cape Premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane expressed profound sadness and outrage regarding the incident.

Mabuyane strongly condemned the act, stating, “This senseless and cruel crime serves as a stark reminder of the moral decay that threatens the very fabric of our society. We urge law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice and to bring those responsible to account.”

“We are deeply saddened to hear about this brutal loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this challenging time. Deepest condolences to the family of the deceased during this sad time,” he added.

He also urged families to ensure their elderly relatives have access to emergency services.

“The safety and well-being of our elderly and vulnerable citizens are of utmost importance,” he stressed.
