To acknowledge and thank doctors for their great service, the Eastern Cape government hosted doctors who work in state health facilities around the province to a special treat to celebrate National Doctors’ Day on the 16th of November.
Doctors and management from all six districts and the two metros were treated to the first-ever Doctors’ Day celebration held at BMW Berea in East London. Under the theme “Healing Hands, Caring Hearts,” the superheroes in white coats were appreciated for their outstanding role in ensuring healthier communities.
The celebrations were kick-started with a fun walk along the beautiful East London beachfront. The fun walk was followed by an aerobics session and then later a chic brunch at BMW Berea.
In attendance, the Eastern Cape premier Lubabalo Oscar Mabuyane said he was delighted to see a lot of young doctors in the provincial medical fraternity. He said appreciating and celebrating our healers is a brilliant idea.
“The work our doctors do is amazing and the theme today resonates with it. This is such a beautiful programme that I hope can be made bigger next year and maybe we can even award these outstanding civil servants,” he said.
Mabuyane noted that even with the recent food poisoning break-out threat, doctors have been very hands-on and very helpful.
