The Department of Health wishes to condemn in the strongest terms the continued criminal attacks targeted at officials and health facilities in some parts of the province.
According to a statement issued by the Eastern Cape Department of Health, yesterday afternoon, a group of six armed robbers hijacked an emergency vehicle from the Ngcobo Emergency Medical Services (EMS) station manager on the R61 road near Ngcobo.”
“The official was held at gunpoint by this group, who abducted him in his vehicle and later dropped him off unharmed along the road near Langeni forest outside Mthatha.
The matter was reported to the police and the victim will be assisted with psychological treatment.
“The department is appealing to the public to protect essential services that are meant to serve communities in need of medical care,” the statement read.
They also urge law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in investigating the latest incident.
