In the Mthatha Express publication of August 10, in the article titled “Multi-million rand Sipetu Hospital opened” it was incorrectly stated that the original Sipetu Hospital was built by Dutch Missionaries around 1976.
A reader who was there during the development of the original facility, which in fact took place in 1961, has since alerted Mthatha Express to the inaccuracy. Our article states incorrectly that the hospital was built by Dutch Missionaries. In fact, the reader was one of 23 Stellenbosch University students who went to Sipetu during the June holidays of 1960 to clear the land and fence the area where the hospital was to be built, and was there again in 1961 and 1964 to help with the development of the hospital terrain. Mthatha Express regrets these errors and unreservedly apologises for any inconvenience caused.
