Local award winner from Ejojweni locality in Ngqamakhwe, Mayibongwe Jack – known as May-Jack– will release his first album on January 19.

Jack has won this award with one of the South African singers from Butterworth, Eves Manxeba, on her new song titled ukukhanya.

They both won the best female music video award in the event hosted by Eminent Awards in Gauteng, last month.

According to Jack, he was featured in the music video by Manxeba.

Talking about his album, he said he had worked with artists from different provinces.

He confirmed that with the same video they were also nominated at the South Africa Traditional Music Award (SATMA) Awards hosted in Durban, last year.

“Over the past year I reached a significant milestone by signing a distribution deal with a French company, expanding the reach of their music to a broader audience.

“Their songs and music videos have gained airplay on popular platforms like Channel O, SA Music TV, SABC 1 and television series such as Uzalo,” said Jack.

Talking about his album, he said that it consists of 11 songs, and it is titled My turn.

He first released two single songs as he was busy preparing for it to come out.

“I released the first single in November titled Sigora. It was followed by the second one that I released in December, titled ndiya zisola.

“In order to make sure that this song becomes successful, I worked with an artist called Zintle Kwaaiman from Mdantsane in East London,” said Jack.

He added that he had chosen to release his album in this month, because he wanted to ensure that people pay attention on it.

He said that he did not want to release in December, because most of all the well-known artists were busy releasing their albums.
