Authorities nabbed four suspects linked to tragic murder of female teacher

The swift response from the OR Tambo District Task Team, along with the collaborative efforts of K9 and Flying Squad members, resulted in the apprehension of four suspects believed to be connected to the heinous murder of 52-year-old female teacher, Baleka Ntutuka. The victim was tragically discovered with fatal stab wounds to her neck at her residence in the Ziphunzana locality of Libode on Monday, February 19.

According to a media statement by SAPS,Captain Welile Matyolo confirmed that all four suspects aged between 26 and 34 years old are expected to appear before the Libode Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of murder and house robbery.  

Matyolo said that it is alleged that after the murder at about 16:30, the suspects had fled in her car taking with them the aluminum windows from her house.

“The vehicle’s tracker system picked up a signal in the Canzibe locality in Ngqeleni policing area where the team arrested the first suspect. Following his arrest, during the early hours of yesterday, February 20, 2024, three more suspects were arrested at Mandela Park in Mthatha and Qumbu where the victim’s cellphone and the stolen aluminum windows were recovered,” said Matyolo.

OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Phumzile Cetyana commended the team for their immediate reaction to information received. “Criminals are warned that our police officers are hot on their heels, and it is only a matter of time before their devous and heinous acts are brought to justice,” said Cetyana.
