Members of Lusikisiki Taxi Owners Association (LTOA), under the umbrella of Border Alliance taxi Association (BATA), showed love by helping the Mkwedini family who was struggling to bury their daughter, Zimasa Kwedini (26), of Mgojweni locality in Lusikisiki. She was murdered and her body was found lying next to one of the garages in Lusikisiki, recently.
Chairman for Transport from the Lusikisiki Taxi Owners Association (LTOA), Sanele Somkhala, said that after they had visited the family they were forced to show love and support, by doing something due to their situation.
“We know that the taxi industry is known as people who are heartless, and who are always ready to attack. People should know that we are coming from different homes. We are also having different backgrounds. We are working hard to show people that we want the change in our industry,” said Somkhala, adding that they had taken a decision to plough back to the community by assisting this family, because their business is supported by them.
Somkhala revealed that they are an association that is not supported by government; instead they depend on community members in order to get money.
“It was not the first time we brought change to the community members. We know that we cannot bring back the life of Zimasa, but at least we showed our love and support to her family. As members of this association, we do not support gender-based violence and we hope that those who are doing this would stop.”
The father of Zimasa, Vela Mkwedini, said that his daughter graduated last year, and he had hoped that she would change their lives for the better.
“She was the first graduate here at home and we were hoping that she will give us light, but instead she was murdered,” said Mkwedini. He thanked members of LTOA for showing support.
