A former assistant manager at Hemmingways Mall’s centre management, Rosslyn Moodley (43), has been convicted in the East London magistrate’s court on August 13 for charges of fraud.
According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, during the period between 2018 and 2020, Moodley made numerous fraudulent “Gift Card Vouchers” for her personal gain.
She said the matter was formally lodged with the East London-based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit of the Hawks for a thorough probe, which revealed that Moodley prejudiced the centre cash to the value of more than R720,000.
“Moodley was arrested on February 14, 2023, whereafter she appeared before the East London Magistrate’s Court, and released on warning,” Mgolodela reported.
“Moodley made a series of court appearances until her conviction on August 13. The matter is remanded to October 14 for a probation officer’s report,” she added.
Mgolodela further added that the joint effort by the Hawks, South African Police Service (SAPS) members, and National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is lauded by the Provincial Head, Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya, for ensuring the conviction of Moodley with the hope for a retributive sentence.
