The Alfred Nzo District Municipality (ANDM) is saddened by the passing of yet another humble servant of the people, Councillor Tshepo Sheane, who recently passed away. He was laid to rest at his home in Mpharane Village in the Matatiele Local Municipality.

His first memorial service was hosted by the Councillors of the Matatiele Local Municipality in Matatiele on April 2, followed by a second memorial service hosted by the Councillors at the ANDM Conference Centre in Emaxesibeni (Mount Ayliff) this week.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Communications, Ncedo Walaza, from the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Sheane was from Ward 13 in Mpharane village under the Matatiele Local Municipality.

Sheane joined the Council of Matatiele Local Municipality in 2019, where he served on the Community Services Committee and the Public Participation and Petitions Committee.

“Following the 2021 Local Government Elections, he joined the ANDM as a Proportional Representative (PR Councillor) and was deployed as a Standing Committee Member for the Corporate Services Department,” the statement said.

The Speaker of the Alfred Nzo District Municipality, Councillor Sixolile Mehlomakhulu, expressed his shock at Sheane’s passing. “We have been robbed of such a humble and dedicated member of the Council who served the people of the district with excellence,” he said.

The Executive Mayor of the Alfred Nzo District, Mhlelembana, sent their deepest condolences to his family and the community of Alfred Nzo, as well as his political organisation. “May we all find solace in the knowledge that we painfully share the loss of our leader. He was a good man who cared about his community and worked diligently towards its development,” said Mhlelembana.
