Through his foundation; Ndibize Foundation, Qonce Reverend Thando Ngwekazi hosted the second annual Fatherless Sons and Daughters Student Conference at the Nolizwe Mpetha Hall in Zwelitsha on March 28.
Twelve high schools from Qonce and surrounding areas attended and participated in the conference.
Ngwekazi explained that the event focuses on the healing and restoration of broken families, especially fatherless sons.
“This concept is about my personal experience as a son who grew up without a father. I only met him for the first time when I was 26 years old, and I only saw him face to face six times before he died in 2020.”
Ngwekazi, who is also writing a book about fatherlessness, said this concept is built around four areas: child who never saw his or her father, a child whose father has passed away, a child whose parents are divorced and a child who lives with a father who is physically present but emotionally absent.
“I believe that the majority of all character problems arise from the brokenness of our families, and families are often afraid to address to these issues. They choose to be reactive rather than proactive. Family secrets also play a significant role in destroying lives of the children.”
Four students took to the podium to share their personal testimonies and experiences of growing up without father figures in their lives.
