HIGHLY motivated Thunderbirds Ladies have a huge task ahead of them this weekend, when they host the unstoppable defending champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ FC, in a Hollywoodbets Super League encounter at Sisa Dukashe Stadium.
Over the weekend, the Butterworth-based Thunderbird Ladies managed to bounce back, at the expense of Bloemfontein Celtic FC, after they were humiliated by University of the Western Cape (UWC) by 3-0 at home in a recent league fixture.
However, this past weekend coach Thembalethu Apleni’s squad regained their dignity when they beat Bloemfontein Celtic FC 2-1 at the Sisa Dukashe stadium.
Their victory was very important to bring the confidence back before they meet the unbeaten log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, this Saturday.
Sundowns Ladies head into the weekend fixture flying high, after they punished TUT FC 4-2 at home.
The defending champions are yet to lose a single game this season, as they have played 13 matches, won 12, and drawn only one. They lead the Hollywoodbets Super League table with 37 points out of a possible 39.
Meanwhile Apleni’s team has played 16 games and have won seven, drawn three and suffered six defeats.
Currently, Thunderbirds Ladies is seventh in the league, with 24 points. The weekend fixture is expected to produce some fireworks, as the home side will be looking to register another victory to improve their league standings.
Meanwhile, the Pretoria outfit will come out with guns blazing, as they look to protect their unbeaten record.
In a recent interview, coach Apleni said that the players were working extra hard to keep fit and ready to compete in every game.
