Police Minister Bheki Cele told 195 new police recruits to not deviate from the police’s code of conduct as they begin their duties as police officers.
Cele was speaking as he presided over the passing out parade of 195 new police constables at Mthatha Police Academy today, September 23. Similar parades also took place in Bhisho and Limpopo as a total of 495 police trainees and reservists graduated to fully fledged police officers.
“Today is affirmation that you are ready to join us in our concerted efforts to eradicate crime, to serve and protect the inhabitants of our beloved country and to ensure that everyone in this country feels and is safe and secured,” Cele told the new police constables.
He said the new police officers will be deployed to specialised units within the South African Police Service such as Public Order Policing, the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit as well as frontline service delivery points identified as crime heavy police stations.
“Work well with the communities you serve and the communities will in turn work with you to fight the common enemy of crime,” Cele concluded.
