Dutywa father expected to appear in court for murder of his two children

A 27-year-old suspect is expected to appear before the Dutywa Magistrate Court today, November 21, for the alleged murder of his two children aged 7 and 9.

The incident occurred at Thafeni Locality in Nqabarha Administrative Area, Dutywa, on November 18.

Police spokesperson Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said the father allegedly murdered his two children after an argument with his mother.

“After the alleged argument, the mother of the suspect left his home to go to her homestead which is nearby leaving behind her grandchildren. The following morning, she was informed her neighbors that her son had killed the children,” Mawisa said.

The suspect handed himself to local community members who then summoned the police.

Mawisa said the motive behind the killing of the two children was unknown and subject to an ongoing murder investigation.

In another unrelated incident, a 69-year-old man remains in police custody following his appearance before the Ngqamakwe Magistrate Court, on November 17, for the alleged murder of his 13-year-old daughter.

The man allegedly strangled his daughter to death after an argument with his partner.

His case has been postponed to November 23 for formal bail application.
