The Director for Lihlume Media Company (LMC), Nombulelo Damba-Hendrick, confirmed that they would be producing a short film titled, Intlungu Yempilo, soon.
She said that this film would be out at the end of March.
According to her, they will be using the story of a rape victim from Ngqamakhwe, and others, to create awareness.
Damba-Hendrick said by creating this film they wanted to educate people and learners about d they could do if they became rape victims. This is the second film they produced; the first one titled, Simanxeba, was produced in August 2022.
“We are hoping to screen it in rural schools around the Chris Hani District. We will involve a lot of stakeholders like police, municipality, non-governmental organisations and the Department of Social Development.” said Damba-Hendrick, who indicated that the victim who is the focus of the film is currently living in Cape Town with her two girls, but she does not have a place of her own.
She said that they hope that they will make enough money for her to buy a structure.
“We are willing to show this film to learners so that they should know what is happening and how they can protect themselves from these problems. We will visit schools and will ask learners to contribute, even if it’s R20, in order to watch it. The victim never received closure; by doing this we are trying to meet her halfway.”
