Members of the SAPS in the Eastern Cape are expected to host a memorial service, remembering the life of Sergeant Detective Viwe Mamba (45) who was gunned down in front of his home in the Colosa Administrative Area in Dutywa on March 4.
Police spokesperson Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana confirmed that Mamba’s funeral service will be held in the Colosa Administrative Area in Muru-Muru locality in Dutywa on March 18.
He said Mamba was stationed at Dutywa Police Station and was gunned down by unknown individuals as he approached his front gate.
Kinana confirmed that he was travelling home after being on standby when the incident occurred.
“A case of murder has been opened for investigation and no arrest has been made at this stage,” said Kinana.
“The SAPS management would also like to take this opportunity to send their heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and colleagues.”
Kinana said the police is urging the community to assist with any information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene said Mamba’s death was a great blow to the SAPS.
She said he was a dedicated, committed and disciplined detective.
“We have mobilised our employee’s health and wellness experts to provide psychosocial services to the family and his colleagues,” said Mene.
“To Mamba, thank you for your selfless service to the nation. May your soul rest knowing that you served your country with pride and distinction.
“The Memorial Service is on Thursday whilst the funeral service details will be communicated in due course,” said Mene.
