DIRECTOR of the Khula Community Development, Petros Majola (58), received a special award from the premier of the Eastern Cape, Oscar Mabuyane, about the good work he is doing to assist communities.

Mabuyane hosted the Premier’s Special Recognition Award, at the Batho Pele Service Excellence and Innovation Awards, at Hemmingways in East London, recently. Majola said he was shocked when his name was called, because no-one had told him he was going to be awarded.

“I only received an invitation, but it did not say anything about being awarded. I felt my tears coming out because I did not know that there are people who see my work to the extent that they award me,” said Majola.

He said it is not easy to be an eye of the community, because some problems are stressing him. He confirmed that he had assisted a lot of people who have different challenges, including children who do not have birth certificates.

“Some of these problems are affecting me a lot. When I am in front of the people I have to be strong, but when I am alone all those problems come back to my mind.”

He thanked Mabuyane, stating that he is always available on the phone, and when there is a problem, he tries by all means to assist.
