The daughter of a well-known music legend, Balungile Njemboqo from Ntsimbini locality in Flagstaff, has decided to keep her father’s name, Mfaniseni Njemboqo, shining by following in his footsteps.

Her father was a singer who managed to put isiMpondo on the map by his music. Njemboqo said after her father passed away in 2010, she took over and recorded her first album, titled, Ingoma kaBaba.

“I did not want my father’s name to die; I wanted people to always remember him because they loved his music. I released an album which consists of 10 songs,” said Njemboqo.

She said this album led to her nomination in the category of Best Isimpondo Music Award, hosted by Mzantsi Traditional and Cultural Music Awards (MTCMA). She said she was very excited when she heard about her nomination because this built her confidence. According to her, it was her first time to be nominated.

“At the moment I am not sure when they will be hosted, but the voting lines have already opened and will be closed on April 29.”

She confirmed that she is working on her second album, which will also be released soon.

She said that those who want to vote for her could SMS MTCMA 302 to 45633. Each SMS costs R1.50 and free SMSs do not apply.
