Man linked to several robberies arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm




A 42-year-old man is expected to appear in the Libode Magistrate’s Court on April 25, after the Hawks’ Cash-In-Transit (CIT) Task Team in a joint operation with Tactical Response Team (TRT) conducted a disruptive operation at Mthatha Taxi Rank at Circus Triangle, where he was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition on April 19. 

Hawks’ spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela said, “On this day the CIT Task Team together with TRT conducted a disruptive operation during the investigation on CIT robberies that had taken place around the area where the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition.

“His cellphone was also seized for investigation. Preliminary investigation linked him to several CIT robberies.” 

Mgolodela said the investigation will continue and more arrests are imminent. 

The Provincial Head, Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya commended the joint effort of the teams as it is continuously yielding fruitful results.
