Spokesperson for Department
of Correctional Services (DCS), Singabakho Nxumalo confirmed that they have
launched a manhunt following an escape of two sentenced inmates from Ngqeleni
Correctional Centre, yesterday.
Nxumalo said the escapees are Siyabulela
Khohliso, serving 10 years’ sentence for rape and Athini Nothi Mzingelwa, who is
also sentenced for rape, serving eight years.
“The two escaped at about 15:30 on
April 27 from the sports field. Additional resources have been deployed
in support of the Emergency Support Team of Correctional Services. They are
working together with the members of South African Police Service to hunt
them,” said Nxumalo.
He added that an investigation into this incident has been
launched by DCS.
Nxumalo said members of the public
are urged to contact the nearest police station should they come into contact
with the escapees.
