The mob justice related incident that left two people dead in the Mbabalane Locality on Friday, April 7 at approximately 22:00, resulted in the arrest and detention of ten suspects at Port St Johns Police Station.

Four traditional healers lost their lives while seven sustained injuries after a single vehicle lost control and overturned on a gravel road in Sundwana, near Xhalanga in Dutywa on May 6.

According to spokesperson for Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, the Toyota bakkie with 11 occupants was travelling from Dutywa to Sundwana location.

“The driver lost control and overturned. Four occupants from the vehicle were declared dead on the scene of the accident,” said Binqose.

“Four of the remaining passengers including the driver sustained critical injuries while two sustained serious injuries. One of the passengers had minor injuries.”

Binqose added that those who were injured were taken to Butterworth Hospital for further medical management.

According to him the circumstances surrounding the cause of the accident are still unknown at this stage as the scene is still under investigations to ascertain the main cause of the accident.

“A case of culpable homicide has been opened at the Dutywa SAPS for further investigation,” said Binqose.
