Police Minister Bheki Cele has overseen the graduation of 214 newly trained police officers during a passing out parade held at the South African Police Service (SAPS) Academy in Mthatha today, June 28.
The 214 police graduates were part of the total 552 that graduated across two provinces as similar passing out parades took place simultaneously at SAPS Academy in Bhisho and SAPS Academy in Thabazimbi, Limpopo.
Cele urged the newly trained police officers to adhere to the police code of conduct and not be found on the wrong side of the law.

“When you think you can do something wrong, remember the police code of conduct that says your job is to serve and protect, uphold, and enforce the law and not break it. The police service is not an institution to produce clients for prison cells. Don’t be corrupt and stay away from temptations to break the law,” Cele said as he gave marching orders to the new police officers.
The graduates spent nine months at police academies as part of their Basic Police Learning Development Programme.
They will now be deployed to clients service centres across the country for the next six months for workplace exposure.
