Real Friends FC were crowned champions of the P Hopisi Attorneys Tournament, after defeating Hungry Lions FC 4–2 on penalties.
The tournament was held at Matshamba locality under Elliotdale, this past weekend.
According to Sifungo Maranjana, the chief organiser of P Hopisi Attorneys tournament, said that the tournament was aimed at the development of sport in Elliotdale and fighting crime.
“We decided to do something in this Madiba month by calling on the young people to stay away from criminal activities,” said Maranjana.
“In Elliotdale we have many cases of gender-based violence and recently a man killed seven family members, which has shocked us. We are still devastated so we decided to do this tournament.”
“We are hoping this tournament will continue for the next few years.”
Individual awards for the tournament:
- Player of the tournament: Sive Klaushe from Hungary Lion FC
- Goalkeeper of the tournament: Thembinkosi Magudula from HomeBoys FC
- Top goal scorer: Aphelele Makhiwane from Hungary Lion FC
- Meanwhile the tournament started with a 15km fun run where more than 50 athletes participated.
The winners were as follows:
- First place, men’s category: Anele Dlamini from Durban won a cash prize of R1 500
- Second place, men’s category: Vuyo Madikiza won R1 000
- First place, women’s category: Menziwa Emihle won a prize of R1 500
- Second place, women’s category: Andiswa Ziqungati won a prize of R1 000.
