Traffic flow on the busy N2 outside Mthatha has been
severely affected, after angry protesters believed to be from Ngolo and
surrounding villages used buses and trucks to blockade the busy route
near Makhaphetshwini junction outside Mthatha on August 11.
The route connects Mthatha to Qumbu, Mount Frere and
Kokstad.
It is believed that the protests were sparked by villagers’
frustrations with lack of drinking water.
No official comment has been received from relevant authorities
yet.
Police are still on the scene trying to remove trucks that
have been jacknifed on the road.
The area falls under the Nyandeni Local Municipality.
