Soccer legends, Derrick Spencer and Josta Dladla, said that their visit to Mthatha had brought back a lot of memories of their days as players.

Dladla and Spencer were speaking to Mthatha Express during the MTN 8 tour in Mthatha. As part of the tour, MTN hosted the legendary soccer tournament at Rotary Stadium for local legends teams on Saturday. OR Tambo Legends FC were crowned champions of the tournament after winning 1–0 against Ngangelizwe Legends FC.

Having a team again in Mthatha will be good for the province and the development from Mthatha, and hopefully soon there will be a team from Mthatha competing at the PSL.

Josta Dladla’s first time in Mthatha was in 1999, playing for Wits University FC against Bush Bucks in Mthatha and he still remembers that day.

“Yes, being here brings [back] a lot of memories. I remember Bush Bucks had the great Mugeyi twins. I know there are still Bush Bucks at ABC Motsepe League, trying to revive it; it would be great to see it back to PSL again.”

MTN Eastern Cape regional marketing manager, Ella Ajayi, said that they were lucky to have legends like Dladla and Spencer to be part of the tour and legends tournament.

The MTN roadshow started on Wednesday last week and ended on Saturday. The trophy tour is the build up to the MTN 8 Cup final this coming Saturday, October 7, between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
