The Mayor of King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, Nyaniso Nelani, confirmed that they had partnered with the Development Intensive Community Land Agriculture (DICLA) Training and Projects, and Ntinga OR Tambo Development Agency, with the aim of empowering unemployed youth from this municipality with agricultural skills.
This partnership was launched at Mthatha Stadium in Mthatha, last week.
He said that they had launched a learnership programme that will assist unemployed youth who live in this municipality to develop their skills.
“The beneficiaries come from all the wards under this municipality. They will be trained in different categories of agriculture, which includes ploughing, poultry farming and mixed farming.
“Due to the high unemployment rate, we are trying to assist young people so that they can have something to do,” said Nelani.
He added that this programme will change their lives, as they will be able to have their own businesses in the future.
Nelani said that the beneficiaries will also use Kei Fresh Produce Market and Abattoir in Mthatha to process their products.
Managing director of DICLA Training and Projects, Lizo Mandlendoda, said that this training takes place over a 12-month period.
“There are so many programmes that we will be doing to assist youth, even Ntinga OR Tambo Development Agency has some programmes that help the youth.
“As we have started this partnership, we will keep on supporting them,” said Mandlendoda.
He said that they had started this Project in 2019, but stopped due to the pandemic, and they had helped young people from different provinces.
Mandlendoda appealed to beneficiaries to respect this opportunity, and to ensure that they stay away from unnecessary things that can lead them to lose focus.
“Do not take this opportunity for granted, because we are trying to help you so that you must have something for your future.”
