A recipe book for the preparation of traditional food is being compiled, according to Nosipho Gwija Mdladla, a member of the Eastern Cape Women Authors Forum.

This forum consists of women who are authors from different areas of the Eastern Cape.

According to Mdladla, this initiative was started by women from KwaZulu-Natal.

“We know that women have been through a lot, so by creating this forum it helps us to speak out and share our experiences. We have realised that in the Book Bank of South Africa the number of authors is decreasing, so we decided to come up with this initiative. We are advising each other about how to write a book, because we also have authors who have experience in publishing,” she said.

According to her, she had learnt that no-one is poor, but people need to trust themselves and start working on their self-esteem.

“You can be separated from your husband, but that does not mean sit down and fold your arms but stand up and try to do something for yourself.”

President of the Eastern Cape Women Authors Forum, Yondela Ngqokolela, confirmed that she had taken this vision from KwaZulu-Natal, because she saw that it was changing other people’s lives, and she then stared it here. According to her, this recipe book will come out with a calendar in December.

“The book will be available as a hard copy and online. We always encourage each other, as writers, to speak when they have some problems. We know that some of us are not good at speaking about our problems, so we advise each other to talk to someone else who has faced the same problem,” said Ngqokolela.

According to her, besides writing they also have other women who are doing different things, including businesses.
