Eastern Cape Department of Health Spokesperson , Sizwe Kupelo confirmed that this department wishes to warn members of the public and those interested in pursuing nursing studies at Lilitha College of Nursing that scammers are targeting unsuspecting applicants.

Kupelo said this scam has been identified through a Facebook Page created under the department’s name and a WhatsApp group operated by individuals purporting to represent the department, offering potential students a free admission at Lilitha Nursing College.

“The department urges members of the public not to fall victim to this scam, promising them to be part of the next intake at Lilitha.

“Also, people should not pay monies for positions advertised by the department. We advise community members to ignore the fake page, and we have also noted a cell phone number connected to these scams,” said Kupelo.

He added that the department is currently working with law enforcement agencies in tracking down these alleged scammers, and we would like to implore members of the community to contact their nearest police station or the Presidential hotline, 17737; alternatively, they can contact the Department of Health’s Center Manager, Zandisile Ntlube, at 043 711 0400 to report all incidents of fraud and extortion.

“People should know that government vacancies and other training opportunities are not for sale.”
