Mayor of King Sabatha Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, Councillor Nyaniso Nelani, led a team of law enforcement officers during the festive season road safety launch at Decolign junction in Mthatha, last week.

Nelani said they hosted this launch with the aim of bringing back hope to the community members of this municipality and the tourists, and to ensure that they fight crime in the Central Business District (CBD) of Mthatha.

We made sure to combine all the law enforcement departments from this municipality and from our neighbouring municipalities. We want to ensure that we have enough security in order to make sure that our communities are safe in town. This is a symbol that the festive season has started.

According to him, they also wanted to ensure that the vehicles that are coming into this municipality are in good condition to transport passengers.

Nelani confirmed that they have also taken care of Coffee Bay and they have launched the same programme in that area. According to him, there are no tourists that had been mugged in that area, as in the past.

“We have tightened up the law in Coffee Bay because it is one of the areas that are very important to us. Even people who will be using our beach will be safe. It is our responsibility to ensure that we are working hard in this initiative, because we will lose people who are important to us, such as tourists.”

Addressing the law enforcement officers, Nelani emphasised the importance of ensuring that all motorists abide by the rules and regulations of the road, while encouraging the officers from KSD, SAPS and Nyandeni Local Municipality to be careful when carrying out expected duties.
