The Eastern Cape Department of Transport is busy taking Scholar Transport Operators through its new, automated Scholar Transport technology.
Spokesperson for the Eastern Cape Department of Transport, Unathi Binqose, said that the new system, known as the Learner Transport Management System, is set to significantly improve the day-to-day running of the Scholar Transport System, and help eliminate possible human manipulation and human errors within the scholar transport service.
He added that the new system also seeks to address the internal control deficiencies around the Scholar Transport Programme, which has largely been the cause of the negative audit report from Auditor General. “Training of Scholar Transport Operators on this new system is ongoing in districts across the province.”
Eastern Cape MEC for Transport, Xolile Nqatha, has commended the department for coming up with this technology-based solution to address the challenges facing the Scholar Transport Programme.
“Any sort of intervention that seeks to improve this all-important service has to be applauded. I am looking forward to its implementation and hope that the results will be as anticipated,” said Nqatha.
