Four learners from Ludidi Senior Secondary including a driver are recovering well at Madzikane kaZulu hospital in Mount Frere following a bus accident which occurred Tuesday, June 12, while they were travelling back home.
According to Department of Education spokesperson, Mali Mtima, a report submitted by the district, states that a locally owned bus was transporting these learners when the driver lost its control.
He said the bus veered off the road hit the fence and, the gate of the Lukholweni Police Station precinct and destroyed the Victim Friendly Room building structure.
“The building’s front wall was damaged and knocked down, since the front part of the bus went through wall before it stopped. The department has activated the Education Social Support Services (ESSS) that provided psychosocial support to all affected learners,” said Mtima.
MEC for Eastern Cape Department of Education, Fundile Gade wished the hospitalised learners a speedy recovery.
“I wish all the admitted learners a speedy recovery as they receive their treatment while still hospitalized. We thank God for saving these young lives, and we are grateful that they accident did not have any fatalities,” said Gade.
