ALL three Eastern Cape (EC) teams playing in Hollywoodbets Super League are expected to be in action this weekend.
This follows after Thunderbirds Ladies from Butterworth were the only Eastern Cape side to participate in the league over the weekend.
Thunderbirds Ladies were hosted by TS Galaxy Queens in an important league match where they were hoping to collect maximum points in their mission to escape the relegation zone.
Things did not go according to plan, as TS Galaxy Queens demolished coach Thembalethu Apleni’s team 6–0 in front of their supporters at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane on Sunday.
This defeat has made things worse for the Butterworth team, as they had played 19 league games without even a single win. Instead, they registered three draws and 16 defeats so far this season.
Now, Apleni’s team is left with 11 league games remaining to turn things around in their mission to escape relegation.
Currently, Thunderbirds Ladies are sitting in the relegation spot, 16th position with three points.
Above them is the KwaZulu-Natal team, Lindelani Ladies, who sit in the relegation zone with four points.
Other teams not far from the relegation zone are City Lads FC in 14th place with 14 points, and above them Durban Ladies with 16 points.
Judging by the current log standings, none of the trailing four teams is safe from relegation.
This is the main reason that every team, from top to bottom, will be gunning for maximum points starting this weekend.
This Saturday the University of Fort Hare FC, in 10th place on the log with 21 points, will host eighth-place side First Touch FC Ladies at Alice,
On Sunday another EC team will be in action, when Thunderbirds Ladies host TUT Matsatsantsa FC at Mdantsane in a must-win match for the home side in order to revive their hopes of surviving relegation.
City Lads FC from Gqeberha will visit the on-form TS Galaxy Queens, and all these will be played in the afternoon.
