THE Amampondo Sport Foundation of Lusikisiki has issued an invitation to all teams interested in competing in the fifth edition of their School Boys Soccer Tournament, scheduled to be hosted at New Rest Sports Grounds starting September 24 to 28.
The aim of this annual event is to contribute to the development of sport, particularly in the Lusikisiki area, and also give young players an opportunity to showcase their talent in front of scouters from Premier Soccer League (PSL) teams and academies.
Football clubs which are interested in participating in the event are welcome to bring their U/13, U/16, and U/21 teams and be part of this highly anticipated School Boys’ Soccer Tournament.
The registration fee per team/school is R900, and the draw of teams or toss will be done on September 8.
One of the event organisers from AmaMpondo Sport Foundation, Zukiswa Ngundze, told Mthatha Express that teams that did well during the event will walk away with great prizes at the end of the tournament.
Ngundze said teams who are crowned champions in their respective age group will go home with a brand-new soccer kit, four soccer balls, gold medals, and a trophy.
Then teams that lose in the finals will get a soccer kit, four balls, silver medals, and a trophy.
Bronze medals, a soccer kit, three balls and a trophy will be issued to those teams that finish third in the tournament.
For more information about the event, Ngundze says teams must contact her at 062 773 5601 or 063 060 8570.
She also highlighted that scouters from PSL teams like Kaizer Chiefs, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, and other teams and academies will attend the event as they are already invited.
In all previous editions of the event, scouters were always present, and they selected many players for PSL junior teams and academies.
