Pastor Mawande Cingo, known as Umlungu wamaMpondo, from the Apostolic Faith Mission in Flagstaff, will be celebrating his 40th birthday in a unique way this year by donating cosmetics to people living with albinism.
Cingo announced that his birthday celebration and fundraising event will take place at the Apostolic Faith Mission in Flagstaff on December 20, from 19:30 to midnight.
“We are currently raising funds to purchase cosmetics and other essentials for people living with albinism, particularly those who are struggling financially and cannot afford these items. With the intense summer sun, we aim to provide some relief,” said Cingo.
He confirmed that he is collaborating with various congregations, including the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, Apostolic Faith Mission, Assemblies of God, African Gospel, and other churches. Beneficiaries will come from different municipalities across the Eastern Cape.
Pastor Michael Madyaka, Chairperson for the Council of Churches and member of the Living Word Assembly Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa, expressed his support for the initiative. “People living with albinism often feel neglected. This initiative will help them feel loved and recognised as valuable members of our community,” said Madyaka.
He added that the initiative aims to assist the government in addressing the challenges faced by people with albinism. “We are praying for the success of this initiative and fully support it. We are requesting donations of sunscreen, sunglasses, and sun hats. Tickets are sold at R100. For more information, please contact Cingo at 073 126 4691.”
