THE Chairperson of the Uncedo Service Taxi Association, Mthatha Branch, Mnikelo Mbopha, confirmed that a special prayer was held for safety during the festive season in Mthatha last week. This was not the first occasion they had organised such a prayer.

“We decided to invite congregations to join us in praying for various safety concerns, including road accidents, drug and alcohol abuse, and beach drownings. We have noticed that when we hold these prayers, there is a notable improvement on our roads,” said Mbopha.

He mentioned their awareness of the high rate of accidents during this time of the year and urged taxi drivers to abstain from alcohol consumption while driving to ensure the safety of all road users.

“We are here because we believe in prayer and hope that God will intervene. We are also calling on all passengers to speak up if they observe that a driver is unfit. This initiative will continue into next year because our passengers are important to us. We need their support, just as they need us.”

Mbopha emphasised that it is distressing for them to hear about accidents involving their vehicles. He said that each passenger is valued and expressed a desire to collaborate with community members to prevent such incidents.

Passengers experiencing any issues on the road are encouraged to contact them at 078 3384 798 or 083 693 4393.
