Two people died in a head-on collision on the N2 highway between Dutywa and Butterworth on Monday, February 10.

The Department of Transport’s provincial spokesperson, Makhaya Komisa, reported that a VW Polo and a Toyota bakkie were involved in the crash.

“The driver and passenger in the Polo, a male and a female, both died at the scene. In the bakkie, the female passenger sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. The bakkie’s driver sustained minor injuries,” he said.

Transport and Community Safety MEC, Xolile Nqatha, expressed his condolences to the grieving families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Komisa stated that the department was urging motorists to drive cautiously and reduce speed, as many roads in the province were wet due to recent heavy rains.
