AN author from Msobomvu Township in Gcuwa (Butterworth), Anathi Kum (21), has announced the publication of her poetry book titled, The Tree of Life.
In addition to being an author, she has earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Agriculture and Animal Production from the University of Fort Hare and is preparing for her graduation.
According to Kum, the book reflects her life experiences and journey of healing. “It motivates those who read it to heal and start afresh in life after facing difficult challenges. I was drugged and raped at school, but I don’t want to dwell on that too much. Writing this book helped me heal and express what was inside me, especially since no one truly understood my story. Through writing, I gained the strength to stand up again,” said Kum.
She added that she is now in a much better place. She emphasised that she was raised by her grandmother, who is still alive, after losing her mother at the age of eight.
Kum confirmed that she wrote the book in 2022, and it was sponsored by Publish Africa Magazines.
“Seeing people showing interest in my book has fuelled my passion for writing. I know that by reading it, they can find healing and the strength to move forward,” she said.
