ISIZWE Boxing Promotions, in conjunction with the Eastern Cape Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture, is preparing to host a big boxing tournament at King Hintsa FET College, Dutywa campus, on March 15.

This was revealed by Isizwe Boxing Promotions promoter, Ntsikayesizwe Sigcawu, last week.

The main purpose of hosting this boxing tournament is to revive the sport of boxing in the Mbhashe area and surrounding regions. In previous years, promoter Sigcawu used to have boxing clubs in Mbhashe and Mnquma, where he trained young boxers to become professional boxers one day. However, today in Mbhashe, there are no active boxing clubs since they were disrupted by the outbreak of COVID-19 a few years ago.

Now, Sigcawu and his Isizwe Boxing Promotions, together with the Department of Sport, are doing their best to bring back the sport of boxing in Mbhashe so that the youth can have another chance to participate in this sporting code.

Sigcawu revealed that in this upcoming event, they will have nine bouts, with boxers coming from different regions within the province.

“Our preparations for the boxing event, which is scheduled for next month at King Hintsa FET College, are in the final stages, and I can tell you we are going to have nine bouts during the event,” said Sigcawu.

He said the main bout will be between Siseko Makeleni, an Eastern Cape champion, and Hlumelo Gingxana from Buffalo City. Champion Makeleni is from the OR Tambo area, and both boxers will be fighting in the EC Lightweight title fight division, which is scheduled for ten rounds. The main supporting bout is between two female boxers, Ndobayini Kolosa from Mhlontlo Local Municipality, and Namandithini Ndyambo from Buffalo City. Both boxers will be fighting in a Female Catchweight bout scheduled for four rounds.

Among other bouts, Bathandwa Mendela from Mnquma in Butterworth will be fighting against Sonke Komeni from Cumakala, while another Butterworth boxer, Masibulele Mbumba, will fight against Lutho Mbuku from Mdantsane.

Sigcawu concluded by saying that next week he will provide a full update about the event details, including the names of the boxers who will also be fighting during the tournament.
