THE Marketing Manager for Mall of Mthatha in Mthatha, Birdy Modise, confirmed that in collaboration with valued tenants Pick n Pay and Jam Clothing, they made a significant contribution to the educational journey of local learners from Tiphini Primary School and Sidwadwa Primary School in Mthatha last week. She stated that they donated a total of 265 pairs of shoes to these two schools.
“Recognising the challenges faced by these schools, the Mall of Mthatha, alongside its tenants, sought to ease some of the burdens faced by students and their families. Jam Clothing (located at the Mall of Mthatha) went above and beyond, generously donating an additional 100 backpacks, each filled with a water bottle and a lunchbox, further enhancing the students’ preparedness for the school year,” said Modise.
She confirmed that the beneficiaries from both schools expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the generous donations. She added that the new shoes and backpacks would not only provide practical support but also boost students’ confidence and motivation.
“The Mall of Mthatha is proud to play an active role in the betterment of the Mthatha community. This initiative reflects the mall’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to fostering a brighter future for local children.”
The principal of Tiphini Primary School, Judith Dyosi, said they were over the moon when they received these gifts. She stated that her school serves children from poor backgrounds. Dyosi added that they did not realise that people were aware of their struggles, as many of their learners cannot afford proper uniforms.
“Some of them come to school wearing gumboots, torn shoes, or old takkies. What these businesses have done for them is truly amazing, and we will never forget this. Most of their parents are unemployed and depend on social grants. At the end of the year, we always provide a list of necessary school supplies, but many parents cannot afford to meet those needs due to their financial situations.”
She said they did not expect this donation — it was a complete surprise for both the school and the learners, who were very excited.
