KWANOJOLI – The South African Police Service in KwaNojoli (formerly Somerset East) has launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a decapitated woman in a field behind the Andries Vosloo Hospital.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana, on 25 May 2026 at approximately 17:40, a member of the public reported that she had found a dead body while cutting wood in the field.
“Police officers responded swiftly and located the fully clothed, decomposed body of a woman lying near a pool of water. The victim had been decapitated, and her head was found floating in the water a short distance from the body,” said Gantana.
She said that the identity of the deceased remains unknown.
Gantana said that no missing persons cases matching her description have been reported at KwaNojoli SAPS or neighbouring stations.
“The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this stage,” said Gantana.
She added that police are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident, or who knows of a woman who has been missing since mid‑to‑late May 2026, to come forward.
Gantana also urged community members who were in the vicinity of Andries Vosloo Hospital on the afternoon of 25 May 2026 to contact the investigating team.
