Viva con Agua is thrilled to announce the return of its impactful WASHA League tournament, taking place on June 28 at Rhatshaza, Thafelehashe, in celebration of South Africa’s Youth Day.

In a statement issued by Viva con Agua, the WASHA League is described as a platform that merges the passion of sport with the power of purpose.

The statement read: “With over 105 football and netball teams from across the rural communities of Elliotdale participating, this year’s tournament promises not just high-energy competition but also a strong message promoting Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH).”

The statement revealed that this is the third instalment this year. “The WASHA League forms a central pillar of Viva con Agua’s Football4WASH initiative – using sport to champion hygiene education, health awareness, and sustainable community development in underserved schools,” the statement explained.

Sivu Tembani at Viva con Agua South Africa said, “This tournament is more than just goals and trophies; it’s about uniting communities, uplifting youth, and igniting change through sport. Football and netball become powerful tools for learning, connection and empowerment.”

Top pros like Wade Crowie will be in attendance on the day of the event.

The statement revealed that the top 10 teams will progress to a thrilling final showcase, which will be a highlight of the day and will provide a unique opportunity for scouts and talent seekers to discover the next generation of sports stars from the Eastern Cape’s rural heartlands.

“We’re inviting everyone to witness something truly special – a tournament where sport meets social impact,” says Tembani. “This is Youth Day reimagined – thrilling, meaningful, and unforgettable.”
