Hawks launch manhunt for suspects in fatal shooting of off-duty police Sergeant Ndodomzi Dion Tengile.

Cases of murder and failure to safeguard a firearm have been opened at Kwaaiman police station after the fatal shooting of a 7-year-old boy by his 8-year-old cousin using his father’s licenced firearm in Nothintwa locality, Ngcwanguba A/A in Mqanduli on Thursday, 02 October at about 12:45.

According to a police spokesperson, Captain Welile Matyolo, the 8-year-old accessed the firearm in his father’s bedroom and pointed it at his nearby cousin, and a shot went off, instantly killing the deceased.

A case of murder was opened against the 8-year-old boy whilst a failure to safeguard a firearm charge was laid against the 48-year-old father.

Matyolo added that the father has been released on warning and appeared before Mqanduli Magistrate Court yesterday, 03 October, whilst the 8-year-old boy has been referred to social workers.
